Extend static headspace GC beyond volatiles to new analytical frontiers
No modern methodology-driven framework for static headspace gas chromatography has appeared in two decades. Static Headspace Gas Chromatography: Methodology and Applications fills that gap, moving from fundamental phase-equilibrium theory to advanced real-world use cases. The book systematically extends SHS-GC beyond traditional volatile analysis to non-volatile species, physicochemical parameter determination, kinetic processes, and hardware functionalization across regulated industrial sectors.
Coverage spans six interconnected methodological areas: conventional headspace techniques, full evaporation headspace, reaction-based headspace, tracer-assisted headspace, and multiple headspace extraction, alongside applications in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, energy, and process control. Each approach is grounded in phase-equilibrium principles that deliver reproducible, matrix-independent results while protecting instrumentation and simplifying sample preparation for high-throughput laboratory environments.
The book also covers:
- Techniques for transforming SHS-GC from a sampling method into a versatile analytical platform applicable across academia and industry
- Methods for measuring key material and process parameters that support efficient process optimization and real-world production problem-solving
- Strategies for routine quality control, process monitoring, and regulatory compliance in pulp and paper, petrochemical, and polymer sectors
- Approaches to environmental monitoring and packaging safety analysis using matrix-independent measurement of volatile and semi-volatile compounds
- Hardware functionalization techniques that extend instrument capability beyond standard configurations for specialized analytical workflows
Designed for chromatographers, analytical chemists, pharmaceutical chemists, food chemists, and environmental chemists working in industrial or academic laboratories, this book delivers the conceptual consistency and methodological rigor required for regulated, high-throughput settings. It serves as both a working reference and a framework for expanding SHS-GC capabilities.
