The Russian State and Urbanization. This book explores cities undergoing post-socialist transitions. Focusing on the relationships between the Russian state and urbanization, it demonstrates how cities have been central to the establishment of capitalism, as laboratories of change, whereby transition to capitalism, new socio-spatial relations, and institutional formats are produced locally. The book provides substantive insights into the socio-political dynamics of urban Russia, while also contributing to the broader intellectual agenda of building urban theory from outside privileged locations, whether in the Global North or South.
