Squid Squad

In Matthew Welton's Squid Squad: A Novel, readers join Natalie Chatterley, Angus Mingus, Nerys Harris, and their friends as they record doorbells, fling walnuts, and contemplate the spaces between things. This unique verse novel exists in an inviolable now, observing picnics, bubble gum, and chalk with a keen eye for weather, smells, and protracted metaphors.

The second half of the collection features shorter, stand-alone poems that rework poetic form with playful experimentation. From poems spoken in a single breath to those crafted entirely of questions, Welton explores the possibilities of language and the rhythm of rhetoric. This collection is for readers who appreciate innovative approaches to poetry and social commentary through verse.
