Invited by Belmond to create a photography book devoted to Splendido, in Sicilia, Chris Rhodes stayed at the Portofino hotel to capture the spirit and distinctive character that have shaped its reputation. His work focuses on the details that define the identity of the place: textures, materials, floral arrangements, pieces of furniture, and a selection of portraits. True to his precise and attentive approach, Rhodes photographs the hotel through a meticulous observation of objects, colours, and everyday gestures. The resulting body of work offers a reading of Splendido that is both sensitive and rigorous, each image seeking to reveal what makes the hotel unique beyond its iconic views.
