Spit Valve

A teenage saxophone player from Small Town, Nebraska is deployed to the 24th Infantry Division Band in Korea at a time that truce negotiations near completion. Dick Sokol, from North Bend, Nebraska finds himself in an exceptional unit of music teachers and professional musicians, all whom had been drafted for military duties. Sokol and the First Sergeant are the only two musicians without a college degree. The First Sergeant has two years of college and has been in the Army 28 years. Sokol is overwhelming impressed and euphoric about the quality of musicians, and seizes the opportunities to play with and learn from them.

Like M.A.S.H., lose the doctors and nurses, and replace them with brass, reeds and percussionists, and you have an equally crazy group of people who would rather be anyplace but in the Army in Korea. This is how they went about getting through the craziness."
