Speech Sound Interventions: 30 group interventions to develop secure speech and phonics foundations
Autor Liz Spooner, Jacqui Woodcocken Limba Engleză Paperback – 29 ian 2026
This supportive, easy-to-use resource offers 30 session plans that a teacher or TA can use in intervention groups throughout the academic year, without the need for a costly and complicated new programme or using specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) time for a large number of children. All of the materials complement existing UK phonics programmes and are designed to work well alongside your current teaching.
These 30 simple half-hour sessions give children opportunities to practise and develop their speech sound skills. The specific focus on speaking and listening from experienced therapists helps to unlock speech sound difficulties, support the children's learning and enable them to develop secure foundations for phonics.

Recenzii
An amazing resource; it's so clear and easy to use. I love how the activities are set out week by week, making it easy for any member of the team to pick up and deliver.
For all schools who can't have a speech and language therapist visit: this book is for them. Jacqui and Liz's expertise and knowledge is vast and they have worked with children directly for many years. The ready-made activities, scaffolding support and resources mean that these sessions can be picked up and delivered straight away.
This book is a fantastic resource for anyone with an interest in supporting young children with their speech sound development and/or developing vital pre-literacy skills. A lot of the activities support phonological awareness development, skills which underpin both speech sound and literacy development. Other activities are more specific. There is a clear and well planned progression from the general to specific that all learners will find helpful.
The resource features lesson plans and photocopiable resources.[...]The introduction helpfully gives information on speech sound development and atypical processes that would benefit from either the specific intervention detailed 1n the book. or escalating to a professional.
The instructions are clear and [there are] step down strategies to support where necessary. This is a fantastic piece of work that has been well thought through.
30 ideally paced and of ideal length practices for helping young children with speech, sound production and literacy. [...] The interventions are all child-appropriate. They list what you need for the exercise (usually, this is a resource provided with the book) and give step-by-step instructions. There are listening, clapping, saying and rhyming exercises, divided into weeks, and allow children to gradually develop their skills. Excellent resource for those who work with children.
This book does exactly what it says. It starts with easy-to-read, basic facts about speech sounds and how to identify a child who needs further help or referring to SALT. It is realistic about how interventions may be delivered in a classroom and all of the sessions are explicitly mapped out with the resources available for [photo]copying from the book or downloading from the publishers' website. Excellent.
I'm going to be purchasing a copy of this book and showing it to our SENCO and EYFS teacher. Some of the activities looked so valuable for all of the children in my class.
