Notăm cu interes faptul că Something is Killing the Children Vol. 2 consolidează statutul seriei de pilon al genului horror în benzile desenate contemporane. Dacă primul volum stabilea o lume în care creaturile din umbră sunt reale, acest al doilea capitol subversează așteptările cititorului, trecând de la teroarea necunoscutului la o vânătoare sistematică și brutală. Remarcăm cum James Tynion IV refuză să ofere un moment de respiro: Erica Slaughter nu doar că trebuie să facă față consecințelor uciderii 'mamei' monștrilor din Archer’s Peak, dar se vede prinsă între datoria de a proteja comunitatea și sosirea propriului ei supraveghetor, care aduce cu sine o birocrație a sângelui și carantinei.

Suntem de părere că forța acestui volum rezidă în contrastul dintre stilul artistic visceral al lui Werther Dell'Edera și profunzimea psihologică a personajelor. Stilul are ceva din tensiunea claustrofobică din The Nice House on the Lake Vol. 1, fără să fie o imitație — acolo unde The Nice House on the Lake Vol. 1 mizează pe suspans psihologic și izolare, Something is Killing the Children Vol. 2 livrează o acțiune grafică directă și o explorare a traumei.

Poziționând lucrarea în contextul operei autorului, vedem o evoluție clară de la tonul fantastic din Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince sau cel ludic-festiv din The Backstagers Vol. 3, către o zonă mult mai întunecată și matură. Această continuare nu este doar o adiție la serie, ci o expansiune necesară a mitologiei 'Casei Slaughter', pregătind terenul pentru conflictele etice majore ce vor urma în Something is Killing the Children Vol. 3.

Suntem convinși că orice pasionat de romane grafice horror va aprecia modul în care acest volum extinde universul creat de James Tynion IV. Notă biografică

James Tynion IV is a comic book writer, best known for his work on the Batman franchise for DC Comics. James' comics career began with co-writing the back-up stories on Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's character defining run on BATMAN, which would lead to his making his own name on a number of Bat-Centric series. This work would culminate in James serving as the showrunner of two consecutive weekly comic series, BATMAN ETERNAL and BATMAN & ROBIN ETERNAL. Recently, he has become the writer of the massive cross-over project, BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, bringing two of the most successful franchises together for the first time. The first issue was one of the best selling comic issues of 2015.

The Young Adult Science Fiction epic THE WOODS broke all records for original series at the company when it was released in 2014, and has recently been optioned for television by Universal Cable Productions. He has also penned the critical successes MEMETIC, COGNETIC and UFOLOGY for the publisher. James has also recently stepped into the shoes of one of the most iconic anti-heroes in the comics medium with the critically acclaimed relaunch of CONSTANTINE: THE HELLBLAZER with Ming Doyle and Riley Rossmo.

An alumni of Sarah Lawrence College, Tynion now lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
