Notă biografică
Tatsuyoshi Saijo is Professor at the Future Design Research Center, Kyoto University of Advanced Science, and Honorary Fellow at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN), Kyoto. He is the founder of Future Design (FD) - a research and practice program, now pursued internationally, that integrates experimental economics, game theory, and institutional design to address long-term societal challenges.
He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota and has held faculty positions at Ohio State University, the University of California, Santa Barbara, Osaka University, Hitotsubashi University, and Kochi University of Technology, where he established the Research Institute for Future Design. He has published extensively in leading journals including Econometrica, the Journal of Economic Theory, Games and Economic Behavior, Sustainability Science, the European Journal of Political Economy, and Global Sustainability. His most recent book, Future Design for Creating a World Worth Inheriting (Springer, 2025), established the empirical and institutional foundations on which the present volume builds.
Professor Saijo's Future Design program has been implemented in municipalities across Japan, the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the United States, and Europe, measurably shifting long-term decision-making in real governance settings. His current research focuses on the Deganawida Mechanism - an institutional design inspired by the Haudenosaunee Great Law of Peace - as a framework for overcoming present-generation bias in democratic governance. Social Design Beyond Division: Symweave Praxis is his most comprehensive synthesis of this work.
