The college day starts out normally until Andrae Nelson speeds into the parking lot of the wrong UNO campus building because his windshield wipers are jumping and the radios have gone out. Forty minutes later, Omaha-and the Midwest-drops to negative 80 degrees Fahrenheit. A boiler room is all that keeps Andrae, his girlfriend, a teacher, and three other students alive-but the fuel won't last forever, and neither will the food they scavenge in brief, excrutiatingly difficult ventures upstairs. And even when they find shelter, it's only because-to Andrae's horror-someone could have stopped the deaths.
Snow in April is a survival-apocalyptic thriller told from the point of view of a terrified 21-year-old radiologist who's not even sure what it means to be alive anymore-because so few others are.
