Skirting Rock Bottom is an experimental work of fiction: a novel composed of interlinking short stories in which a young queer protagonist stumbles through the turning gear-like mechanisms of a society much in need of maintenance and some lubricating oils. The story lurches, hisses and careens, jolting along the rusting iron rails of a post-adolescent turmoil. It is set in a confusing 21st century New York, where it isn't always clear where one problem ends and another begins. Impressionistic and confused, our young gin-soaked protagonist struggles to differentiate between the personal and the political in a landscape where conflicting demands, and institutionalized hypocrisy, preclude anyone from ever truly reaching solid ground.
