În acest al treilea volum al seriei All The Wrong Questions, facem cunoștință cu o versiune mai tânără și surprinzător de vulnerabilă a celebrului Lemony Snicket. Copiii se vor identifica rapid cu acest ucenic detectiv care, deși înzestrat cu o inteligență sclipitoare, se lovește constant de absurditatea lumii adulților și de întrebări la care nimeni nu pare dispus să răspundă corect. Reținem că forța personajului rezidă în curiozitatea sa neobosită, o trăsătură pe care orice mic cititor pasionat de mistere o va recunoaște imediat. Premisa este una clasică pentru genul romanului polițist, dar adaptată cu măiestrie: orașul Stain'd-by-the-Sea este asediat de incendii suspecte, iar Snicket trebuie să descopere cine se află în spatele lor. Putem afirma că elementul distinctiv al cărții este tonul de 'noir' subtil, unde umorul sec se împletește cu o atmosferă ușor melancolică, susținută vizual de ilustrațiile semnate de Seth. Pe același raft cu Who Could That Be at This Hour?, cartea se adresează copiilor de 9-12 ani care caută o narațiune ce nu îi subestimează, oferindu-le în schimb puzzle-uri lingvistice și dileme morale. Spre deosebire de ciclul A Series of Unfortunate Events, unde Snicket era doar un narator distant care documenta nefericirea orfanilor Baudelaire în volume precum The Vile Village sau The Grim Grotto, aici el este motorul acțiunii. Brett Helquist was born in Ganado, Arizona, grew up in Orem, Utah, and now lives in New York City. He earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Brigham Young University and has been illustrating ever since. His art has appeared in many publications, including Cricket magazine and The New York Times.
