Recently retired British policeman Harry Lockhart was beginning to tire of his Italian holiday after just two days. Little did he know that he was about to tumble into a world of intrigue that would cause him to risk his life trying to get to the bottom of a seemingly innocuous hit and run while avoiding the attentions of the local police. Set in rural Umbria, Harry's story is rooted in Italian fascism dating back to the Second World War with an even older Etruscan mystery linking the past to his present case. Had he known what was lurking beneath the surface of those shallow waters he might have settled for a quiet holiday after all.
