As Prins lies on a lumpy mattress in a cold damp room in the psychiatric ward in the Redlands Community Hospital-the victim of an attempted suicide-he chronicles how, in the years and months preceding his hospital stay, he wrestled with temptations created by the devil, developed thoughts of worthlessness, and eventually turned to a self-induced death as a means for relief, only to find that through God's grace, that hope is the best of things-maybe even better than life itself. As he compares his life experiences with Corrie ten Boom and Christ himself, he opens the door for others to view the world as a place of darkness and sin, but also allows them to see God as good, gracious, and powerful.

Prins' compelling story transports others through his internal struggles from childhood to today in order to reinforce an important message that it is okay to let go and trust that God will rescue all of us from the darkness.
