SARAH IN SPOTLIGHT

A young Sarah Bernhardt finds her place in the spotlight in this inspiring Little Gem from bestselling author Katherine Woodfine.

Katherine Woodfine's latest Little Gem reimagines the childhood of famous French actress Sarah Bernhardt.

As a spirited, imaginative and feisty young girl, Sarah struggles to fit in at home and boarding school, where she hates following the rules and longs for adventure, drama and excitement.

When the school puts on a play she finally sees a chance to shine but loses her place when she holds a funeral for her pet lizard and distracts the other girls when they're all supposed to be rehearsing. It's not until she secures a place to study drama at the Conservatoire in Paris that she finds somewhere she truly belongs.

Born in 1844, Sarah Bernhardt overcame setbacks and self-doubt to become world famous for her golden voice, her spectacular performances and her completely unique spirit. She became one of the world's first celebrities, performed across the globe and was so beloved that thousands lined the streets of Paris in tribute when she died in 1923. She is still considered one of the most remarkable performers of all time.
