Sanctuary: Shiloh Mystery Series, cartea 1

Autor T. M. Brown
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 19 ian 2018
Some places hold your past. Some become your sanctuary. After forty years of marriage and a lifetime of demanding careers, Theo and Liddy Phillips are ready for a quieter chapter. Their move from suburban Atlanta to the charming South Georgia town of Shiloh promises friendly neighbors, familiar traditions, and the slower rhythm of small-town life. But Shiloh's welcoming appearance conceals a troubled history. Three years earlier, a fire destroyed the town's historic courthouse and claimed the life of Jessie Masterson, a beloved teacher, coach, and co-founder of Sanctuary, a youth fellowship that had offered guidance and belonging to local teenagers. Jessie died a hero, but questions surrounding the fire-and the people who survived it-have never entirely disappeared. When Theo, a retired publishing executive with dreams of becoming a writer, begins looking into Jessie's life, his natural curiosity draws him deeper into Shiloh's unfinished business. With the help of new friends, he uncovers old grievances, guarded loyalties, painful regrets, and secrets some residents would prefer to leave buried. What begins as an effort to honor one man's legacy soon challenges Theo's understanding of his new neighbors-and threatens the peaceful retirement he and Liddy came to find. Rich with memorable characters, Southern traditions, gentle humor, and an absorbing mystery, Sanctuary is a heartfelt contemporary Southern family novel about faith, friendship, courage, forgiveness, and the influence one generation leaves upon another. The first book in T. M. Brown's Shiloh Stories, Sanctuary was a finalist for Georgia Author of the Year and the American Book Fest Best Book Awards. For fans of Jan Karon, Fannie Flagg, and Richard Paul Evans, Sanctuary: A Legacy of Memories offers a warm, character-rich journey into the heart of a Southern town. This is the first of three Shiloh Stories.

Notă biografică

T. M. Brown is a Southern boy at heart, although he's lived and traveled in many states far removed from his beloved boyhood roots in Georgia and Florida. When he returned several years ago he enjoyed traveling throughout the South for business and pleasure. He and his wife retired and relocated outside of Atlanta. T. M. Brown, Mike to friends and family, embraces his Georgia heritage, thanks to the paternal branches of his family tree. After his father passed several years ago, he learned of the hard times and sacrifice the Brown family endured during the Depression, which precipitated their grandfather leaving Georgia to find work in Miami. As a child, Mike holds fond memories of warm Sunday afternoons when his Pop drove the family past Stone Mountain in the late 1950s to visit his Great-Uncle's farm. Though Snellville's dust-filled red clay backroads have been widened and paved for decades, Mike fondly recalls the sting of barb-wire pasture fences, sipping cool well-water from a ladle, and getting scrubbed in a washtub as a youngster by the front stoop of Uncle Kerry's and Aunt Monk's old farmhouse. When not writing or traveling, Mike and Connie enjoy sharing time with family. Writing about Shiloh has conjured up many near-forgotten memories, and thanks to his Pop and Poppa, he cherishes this truth - "The testament of a man lies not in the magnitude of possessions and property left to his heirs, but the reach of his legacy long after his death."
