Safety in Electrical Low Voltage Installations
Autor Himanshu Maheshwari, D. P. Kotharien Limba Engleză Hardback – 10 apr 2027
• Discusses protection system designing and requirements for overcurrent protection, earth fault/leakage protection, and selection of different protective devices.
• Explains calculations of deriving load, rating of an over-current protective device, and properly coordinated conductor size after applying all factors affecting the rated current capacity.
• Showcases detailed safety audit guidelines along with formats, inspection points, and test procedures for conducting verification of new installations.
• Presents simplified electrical wiring design layouts for building installations, outdoor lighting installations, and temporary outdoor installations.
• Illustrates complete measurements and testing procedures for electrical low-voltage installations according to IS 732 and other standards.
The text is primarily written for senior undergraduates, graduate students, and academic researchers in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and communications engineering, safety engineering, occupational health, and safety.

Notă biografică
Himanshu Maheshwari is presently working with the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. He worked as an assistant divisional electrical engineer (ADEE), in Traction Distribution, followed by divisional electrical engineer (DEE), in traction Distribution in the Secunderabad Division of South-Central Railway, India. He oversaw the construction, maintenance, and upkeep of 600 TKM of Overhead Line feeding power to locomotives, 16 Traction substations, and 34 switching stations. He was given charge of the electrical Directorate at the Centre for Advanced Maintenance Technology unit of the Research Design and Standardization Organization (RDSO) under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Due to his keen interest in electrical safety, he was given the task of improving electrical safety standards on Indian Railways and he then prepared many guidelines and instructions for the practical implementation of Indian Railways based on Indian and International Standards and the National Electrical Code of India 2023 (NEC).
D. P. Kothari is currently working as Chairman, of the Board of Governors of THDC Institute of Hydropower Engineering and Technology, Dehradun, India. He has served as vice chancellor, of VIT, Vellore, Director in charge and Deputy Director (Administration) as well as Head of the Centre of Energy Studies at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and as Principal, of VRCE, Nagpur. He was a visiting professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Australia, during 1982-83 and 1989, for two years. He was also an NSF Fellow at Purdue University, USA in 1992. He also taught at Melbourne University Australia for one semester in 1989. He has published and presented 840 research papers in various national as well as international journals and conferences. His areas of research interest include electrical power system engineering with a special interest in system analysis, load flow, economic load dispatch, computer control, and system optimization. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Science (FNASc), Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (FIE), Fellow IEEE, and Fellow IETE
