In Sacred Rebels, Rabbi Jericho Vincent—educator, activist, author, and founding rabbi of Temple of the Stranger—traces two paradigms running through all of Jewish history. The first, “Judaism of the King,” is a religious dynamic that promises safety in exchange for obedience. The second, far older and long suppressed, is “Judaism of the Stranger”—rooted in the ancestor Miriam, the ancient mandate to love the stranger, the erotic wisdom of the Song of Songs, and the Kabbalists’ vision of a God who lives within, between, and beyond all things.
