Ross Township

Autor John D. Schalcosky
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 2 mai 2011
On June 26, 1809, John McKnight and 30 other residents of Pine Township petitioned the courts of Allegheny for the formation of a new township. In the November term, permission was granted, and Ross Township was born. However, the story does not begin there. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Ross Township was settled by early Native American warriors and hunters who used the land as a hunting ground. Ross Township includes the tales of Casper Reel and his family, the first white settlers North of the Allegheny; Simon Girty, traitor and renegade of the Revolutionary War; and the infamous Biddle Boys escape from prison with the warden s wife and escapade through Perrysville in the winter of 1902."

Notă biografică

John D. Schalcosky is a storyteller, historian, archivist, composer, and lifelong explorer of hidden connections. As the founder of Odd Pittsburgh, a public-history platform followed by nearly 300,000 people, he has spent more than a decade uncovering the extraordinary hidden inside ordinary life, from forgotten people and places to family histories and the stories behind the stories. He hosted The Pittsburgh Oddcast on KDKA Radio, has researched more than 15,000 family histories as a genealogist, and has composed concertos, symphonic works, and hundreds of songs. His work has been featured on KDKA, WTAE, and WPXI and in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Magazine, and The Atlantic, and he was named Technical.ly's 2024 Creator of the Year. For John, curiosity is not simply a hobby but a way of paying attention to the world. The Curiosity Club grew from that belief: a weekly gathering where people of all backgrounds come together to think deeply, wonder aloud, and reconnect through meaningful conversation.
