Alyokhina nu se limitează la a descrie condițiile precare de detenție, ci analizează modul în care instituția închisorii încearcă să rescrie psihicul uman, forțându-l să creadă că regulile sunt imuabile. Ca și Read & Riot de Nadya Tolokonnikova, această biografie transformă documentele și experiențele traumatizante într-o narațiune a nesupunerii, însă acolo unde Tolokonnikova oferă un ghid de acțiune, Alyokhina ne oferă un jurnal intim al supraviețuirii spirituale. Dacă în The Incredible Events in Women's Cell Number 3 de Kira Yarmysh întâlnim o perspectivă ficționalizată și onirică asupra detenției, în Riot Days realitatea este prezentată fără filtre, demonstrând că trecerea de la statutul de deținut la cel de om liber nu se face prin simpla deschidere a porților, ci printr-o luptă interioară continuă. Este o mărturie despre prețul curajului într-o lume care pedepsește dizidența.

Despre autor

Maria Alyokhina este o activistă politică din Rusia, artistă și membră a grupului de protest punk-rock Pussy Riot. A devenit o figură centrală a rezistenței globale după ce a fost arestată în 2012 în urma unui protest desfășurat în Catedrala Hristos Mântuitorul din Moscova. Condamnată la doi ani de închisoare pentru „huliganism motivat de ură religioasă”, Alyokhina și-a petrecut mare parte din pedeapsă în colonii penitenciare, devenind o voce puternică pentru drepturile deținuților. Experiența sa în sistemul penal siberian stă la baza activismului său continuu pentru drepturile omului și libertatea de exprimare.

Notă biografică

Maria Alyokhina is a political activist, artist and member of Pussy Riot collective. After 'Punk Prayer' - a Pussy Riot performance of the song 'Mother Mary, banish Putin' in Moscow Cathedral on 21 February 2012 she was convicted of 'hooliganism motivated by religious hatred', sentenced for two years' imprisonment and transported to a penal colony in the Urals, one of the hardest prison systems in the world. As a political prisoner she campaigned to improve the lives of her fellow inmates in the penal colony and continued her work as an activist and artist outside. She is a co-founder of the independent Russian media outlet MediaZona and actor with the Belarus Free Theatre.
