The 50's and 60's brought challenges to those who had previously led simple lives governed by tradition. The South made it through the unrest and subsequent rebellion but it was not easy to rebuild, rename and revitalize. It took the determination of both blacks and whites to make it happen. Brother and sister Scrappy and Boo Sanford grow in mind, body and spirit while living in the small town of Greenburg, South Carolina. Rocky Bottom is their special place, their hub, their touchstone. It is the place they return to if only in their hearts.
