Researching Disability in Physical Education provides a comprehensive global overview of research on disability and physical education, with a specific focus on inclusion, marginalisation, and educational equity.
In schools, physical education often places a strong emphasis on physical ability and performance. However, this focus can result in the systemic exclusion and marginalisation of students with disability, both historically and in contemporary practice. In response to this, international movements have emerged to promote inclusive education, supported by frameworks such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Sustainable Development Goals. Drawing on 47 case study chapters from diverse countries, this book brings together a wide range of insights and perspectives on how disability and physical education are researched, understood and practiced globally. These case studies highlight not only the varied cultural, political, and institutional contexts that shape physical education, but also the methodological differences that influence how inclusion and marginalisation are examined. The book also challenges dominant Anglo-American research paradigms and amplifies voices and approaches that are often underrepresented in mainstream academic discourse.
