This book takes a critical look at divorce and remarriage in the Bible. Man was created to have dominion over the earth. Woman was created to help him (Genesis 2:18). Man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. God made them one flesh to have godly offspring (Malachi 2:15). Moses allowed man to put away his wife because of the hardness of his heart. The woman was not allowed to divorce her husband because she was under the law of her husband (Genesis 3:16; Romans 7:2). If she separated, she was commanded by the Lord Jesus to remain unmarried or reconcile to her husband (1 Corinthians 7:11). Although man has the permission to put away his wife for sexual immorality, he should stay married if she is willing to confess her sins and repent (Jeremiah 3:8-10; Judges 19:1-3; 1 Corinthians 7:11). For man ought not to separate what the Lord joined together (Matthew 19:6). However, man is allowed to marry when loosed from his wife (1 Corinthians 7:26-27). The woman is loosed from her husband when he dies/sleeps (1 Corinthians 7:39). Moses did speak of a divorced woman marrying in Deuteronomy 24:1. It seems the woman is loosed from the covenant to her husband if he puts her away for sexual immorality. However, if she is not put away for sexual immorality, and marries again, she commits adultery in remarriage (Matthew 5:32). This is the word of the Lord.
