Thrust into the limelight as Sweden's new Chief of Police, Ragnar Amren is persuaded to perform his special fan dance at a private dinner. Shortly afterwards, visited by an elderly doctor he has never met before, Amren disappears and his visitor's dead body is discovered hanging above a road.
