Research claims are found in a variety of formats including commercial product advertisements, news accounts, advocacy websites and refereed research journals. Unfortunately not all claims are complete, accurate and valid. This book emphasizes open-minded skepticism. It encourages readers to question any and all research claims and to evaluate those claims using sound, scientific information. Asking the right question then seeking out and evaluating the evidence are the keys to determining which claims are valid and which are not. The overarching goal of this book is for readers to develop the art and skill of open-minded skepticism in an effort to become more thoughtful and informed researchers, clinicians, teachers and consumers.
