Recenzii

'This book is most timely in its publication due to the recent massive growth in the private security industry and the problems this in itself has created. It provides a detailed account of the complexity of those problems and embraces the need for integration and co-ordination across the spectrum of crime prevention. The regulation of the industry is critical to its future success if it is to work in harmony with the statutory agencies and ensure that common goals of 'policing' are pursued. Both Bruce George and Mark Button, though this book, have made an outstanding contribution to the ongoing debate.' - Sir John Stevens QPM, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis
'The authors' contribution to the debate about the private security industry, has, over the years, been consistently outstanding. This book shows clearly the quality of the research which has been undertaken, the depth of personal knowledge of the authors, and their commitment to improving the standards of an industry which has too few champions. This book deserves to become the definitive on our industry.' - Jørgen Philip-Sørensen, Chairman, Group 4 Falck
'This book lays out some of the problems the authors have identified and their suggested solutions. It will prove an essential tool for security practitioners and those interested in this huge and growing industry.' - John Smith, Head of Group Security, Prudential
'This book is an important resource for those having academic, professional or policy interests in private security. The authors provide a wealth of information on the structure and organisation of the industry, give vital insights into how private security is deployed in practice, and present a thoughtful analysis of the theoretical and policy implications of private security's expansion. George and Button have made a valuable contribution to an area of growing debate.' - Professor Les Johnston, University of Portsmouth, UK
'An authoritative and factual work demonstrating the scope and scale of the fast developing private security industry. It sets out the state of this huge but fragmented industry as it adapts to the challenges of the new millennium and prepares for the introduction of statutory regulation.' - Dr David Holt, NACOSS
