Popham

Autor Michelle Benham
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 7 mai 2027
Born from the shifting tides and ever-changing shoreline of Popham Beach, this collection is a celebration of place, time, and attentive observation. Set between the powerful mouth of the Kennebec River and the wandering Morse River, these poems emerged from a landscape in constant motion-- sandbars appearing and vanishing, channels carving new paths, storms reshaping familiar shores. What began as daily walks along the beach soon became a deeper practice of listening, watching, and recording the fleeting moments that nature offered. The poems in this volume grew directly from those encounters, often scribbled on paper carried in zip-lock bags against the sea spray, capturing impressions before they could be swept away like footprints in the sand. The years during which these poems were written were marked by a rare freedom to fully immerse in the natural world. With family grown and life moving into a quieter season, the rhythms of tides, weather, wildlife, and shoreline became both companion and teacher. A tide clock replacing the traditional clock in the kitchen symbolized a shift in perspective-- from measuring life's hours to following the ancient cycles of the sea. Over nearly two decades, countless observations, reflections, and moments of wonder accumulated into this body of work. These poems invite readers to slow down and enter a world where change is constant, yet enduring patterns remain. They explore the intersections of land and water, memory and presence, solitude and connection. Most poems are accompanied by illustrations inspired by the same landscapes that gave them life. Together, they offer a personal record of years spent walking a remarkable stretch of Maine coast and a reminder of the beauty that reveals itself when we pause long enough to pay attention.
