Notă biografică

Taira Rice is a self-taught artist from Harlem, New York City. She has been drawing for most of her life and has always been inspired by the people in her community, her family & friends, comic books, and Hip-Hop/RnB music. She is aesthetically attracted to late 90's and Y2K fashion, design and architecture which inspires her to create the clothes, objects and spaces that her characters interact with. Through her art she aims to speak on the topics of intimacy, confidence, and duality within the context of being a Black Woman. Pleasures was born out of the Covid-19 pandemic after Rice received her BFA in Illustration from Parsons school of Design; while learning graphic design on her iPad during her apprenticeship at a Tattoo shop (Art 2 Ink studios), she created Pleasures as a way for people in our new home-centered world to create on their downtime. Featuring only women to showcase the passionionate, vulnerable moments within queer relationships; and Inspired by the many intimate pleasures one could've indulged in during quarantine and after. Pleasures is a fun, adult coloring book that represents and demands respect for the female body and all its glory. Taira Rice is currently the Co-Owner of her own tattoo shop named Liquid Swords Art & Tattoo in East Harlem, New York where she creates designs to be loved and seen for a lifetime.
