Mark Peel is the author of ten books including England Expects: A Biography of Ken Barrington (winner of the 1993 Cricket Society Literary Award), Cricketing Falstaff: A Biography of Colin Milburn and The Last Roman: A Biography of Colin Cowdrey. He is also a contributor to The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

After decades of sledging, intimidatory bowling, blatant gamesmanship and dissent, the MCC adopted The Spirit of Cricket in 2000. While the concept is a noble one, its impact has so far been limited.
