This is the first Commentary on the EU Directive on Platform Work.
Digitalization is fundamentally changing the world of work and forms of employment. Digital platforms play a central role in this transformation. Millions of people in Europe already work through platforms, often under precarious conditions and without clear legal status. The new EU Directive on improving working conditions in platform work addresses these challenges. It establishes uniform regulations for employment status, algorithmic management, and legal protection, and marks a milestone for European labor law.
Platform Work Directive: Article-by-Article Commentary provides the first systematic analysis of the Directive. The commentary examines its interplay with existing regulations, such as the P2B Regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the AI ??Regulation. Furthermore, it places the Directive within the context of EU social policy and highlights the implementation challenges at the Member State level.
