From abstract portraits and conceptual still lifes to spectral nudes, object studies, and previously unseen street and travel images, Schaefer’s photographs speak in visual riddles. This retrospective captures the evolution of that vision across twelve years — a period during which Schaefer’s vocabulary has grown more refined, his experiments more confident, and his voice more assured. Marcus Schaefer is a Paris-based multi-disciplinary artist working in photography, sculpture and painting. The artist puts the color black at the heart of his work, using it as a central component to his visual messaging.
