Recenzii
This book is a masterpiece in a historical analysis informed by queer theory and sets an example for other similar studies of ancient and modern gender norms and their bending.
This is an essential read for anyone working on gender and sexuality in the ancient world and is well worth considering for classroom use as well.
There are many things in this book that are new and innovative… [It is] a book that is frank and often witty, disruptive, and learned… This is a superb piece of scholarship, richly textured and finely nuanced, and essential reading for anyone interested in queer studies' utility for helping us to understand one perhaps curious phenomenon in the ancient Mediterranean world.
