Its etiology is still poorly understood, but several factors have been associated, such as ill-fitting dental prostheses, poor oral hygiene, material used to make the prostheses resulting in hypersensitivity, trauma, immunodeficiency and the fungus Candida albicans, however it is necessary to establish the relationship between the presence of the fungus and the pathogenesis of the disease.
