David Beare studied at the École Internationale, Geneva and later lived in Málaga province, Spain. He speaks French, Spanish and Italian. He has lived in Wales for twenty years and has contributed to a number of magazines, including Tractor & Machinery, Old Tractor, Farm & Horticultural Equipment. He also occasionally contributes to The Automobile, La Vie de l'Auto (France) and Motor 16 (Spain).
