Evan Raby is tired. Tired of his wife's frequent mood swings. Tired of her shallow friends and their inane conversation. Tired of the job that no longer challenges him. So very, very tired. Perhaps if he could just get a good night's sleep then things might not seem so bad. But sleep is not something Evan is particularly good at. If it's not the sudden return of the recurring nightmare that once haunted his childhood, then it'll be one of his frequent night terrors - filling his mind with confusion and forcing him kicking and screaming from his bed. Awake, yes, but still very much in the grip of imagination's own fancy. And if it's neither of those things, then what on earth could be making him feel so scared? Evan needs answers, but where can he find them? Should he trust Christian, his best friend, who's developed a sudden - and totally out of character - interest in New Age therapies? Or perhaps he should rely on the medical establishment? They certainly seem to find his condition interesting, but what motives lie behind their interest in studying his experiences? No matter which path he might choose there are dark whispers and stark warnings for him to consider and plenty of reasons not to trust anyone who might claim to have his best interests at heart. Can Evan unscramble the truth of his predicament in time to judge whether each decision will truly lead him to an answer? And more importantly, can he be sure that the consequences of his actions aren't about to lead him - or, for that matter, anyone else - into a situation far more dangerous than even he could ever dream?
