Our First Summer

The daughter of Swedish immigrants, fifteen-year-old Annie Larsson must adjust to life on the prairie, the family living in a one-room log cabin. Tea is Annie's younger sister, while Johannes is only ten, and quite precocious.

In Our First Summer, a storm brings a reprieve from the heat, but also danger in the form of thieving Indians. After the attack, Annie meets their new neighbor, a handsome cowboy by the name of Garrett Rafferty. His sister, Antonia, is the teacher in town. Annie's mother wishes to return to Sweden, suffering from homesickness. Despite the hardships and the uncertainty of life, Annie adores Kansas, the prairie beautiful and the land fertile enough to sustain them. With faith in the Lord and the promise of an abundant crop, will this be the new beginning for which they hoped?
