This project seek to apply Operational research methodology in solving real life problem. The project proposed a mathematical model for municipal solid waste management system(MSWMS) for Ilala municipality and includes the concept of collection centers.The main objective of the project is to determine the best collection center locations for solid waste in Ilala municipality so as to minimize transportation cost.Solution of the model is performed using GNU Linear Programming kit(GLPK) software.This project will help the government to make policies and plan program-mes for MSWMS.It will help municipal planners to quantify the costs for municipal solid waste collections so as to opt for optimal one.Lastly the project will be useful to the private contractors on planning their operations for solid waste collection.
