Those who enter the Gabriel H. Penn Home for Childhood only get to leave one way...

NEVER LET ME GO for teens, THE ONE SAFE PLACE is the debut novel from Tania Unsworth - a gripping, fast-paced and disconcerting dystopia.

In the near future the gap between rich and poor has become insurmountable. Life as a street child in the big city is only made bearable by who, and what, you know. And by the rumour circulating of a haven for children, a place of true safety. This rumour appears to be nothing more than a fairy-tale until Devin, and his new friend Kit, meet someone who promises to take them there. But when Devin and Kit arrive they begin to understand the real price of safety...

A disconcerting vision and a beautifully imagined novel of suspense and adventure from debut author, Tania Unsworth.

Recenzii

I loved how the story, almost subconsciously, tackled more than one issue underneath its outer layer
This book has echoes of Cormac McCarthy's The Road and in many ways, although clearly aimed at the teenage market, is as compelling as an adult read. Written in a simple, almost matter-of-fact style which fits the subject matter very well and with a satisfying ending, it's a very believable story and an excellent debut for Tania Unsworth.
Wonderfully original, a little sinister, this debut is a cracker
... an unputdownable read that had me gripped from the opening scene, and ultimately left me feeling grateful that this dystopia is a fictional one
The world that you explore as you read - yes, reading this book is like walking through this world, excellent writing - is quite terrifying.
