This collection includes selections from Fonteläs five full-length collections, translations of a pointed poetic statement, fascinating excerpts from multiple interviews, a translator¿s note, and an afterword by Ricardo Domenek that help to situate Fontela and her poetry alongside, and in contrast to, the conservative, male-dominated Brazilian literary context of her time. *Author was born to a Brazilian working class family with semi-literate parents and became revered as one of Brazil¿s most celebrated poets, winning Prémio Jabuti, one of Brazil¿s most prestigious literary awards, and publishing over 300 poems spread over five books. *Translator is a talented self-taught translator of Lusophone poetry, who shares Fonteläs working-class background and distrust/disinterest in traditional academic and publishing institutions.
