Numerous studies exist of the ecumenical, evangelical and pentecostal movements and the ways in which they relate to each other. This book does what none has done as yet. It provides a comprehensive historical-critical analysis of the long process whereby these movements, all three with their roots in the evangelicalism of the 19th century, parted ways. It explains how each group saw themselves,, what each believed to be at stake, and why they separated. And it is the first study presenting the reader with an extensive account of the efforts made over the past 75 years to bring the ecumenical and evangelical-pentecostal movements closer to one another, for the sake of the unity and mission of the church.
