Entre fango, lluvia y sangre, el Destino se abre paso en una noche en que la muerte no da tregua.La noche del 30 de junio de 1520 tuvo lugar en las afueras de Tenochtitlan el mayor desastre sufrido por las huestes de Hernan Cortes durante la conquista de Mexico. En su retirada, los soldados espanoles, castigados por la lluvia, avanzando por los puentes y entre el barro, debieron elegir entre el botin o la vida; abandonar el lastre de oro y riquezas que tantos peligros, sudor y sangre habia costado era su unica posibilidad de escapar. Sin embargo, no es facil dejar atras la esperanza de un futuro mejor. En Ojos azules, peleando por su vida, un soldado de mirada anil suena con lo sucedido y por suceder, mientras combate y carga con el talego de oro en el que pesa todo su porvenir.

Perez-Reverte recreates one of the most historical battles in Mexico's conquest, the so called "Sad Night." Surrounded by mud, rain, and blood, Fate has a breakthrough on a night when death seems to give no truce.
On the evening of June 30th, 1520, in the outskirts of Tenochtitlan, Mexico suffered the greatest tragedy at the hands of Hernan Cortes during its conquest.
The Aztecs taste and relish their next revenge, while the Spaniards are ready to flee under the rain leaving behind the promise of gold for which they crossed the ocean; they must choose, to either take the loot for which so many fought and died for, or flee and save their own lives.
But, it's not easy leaving behind the hope of a better future. While fighting for his life, a blue-eyed soldier is not willing to drop the sack full of precious metal; as he dreams of what could be, he fights on while carrying the gold bag filled with the weight of his future.
