Nomadic Performance Making: Embodied Journeys as a Creative Process: Methuen Drama Agitations: Text, Politics and Performances

Editat de Rosie Garton, Ildikó Rippel, Dr Mark Crossley Anja Hartl, William C. Boles
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 13 mai 2027
Utilising a diverse array of scholarly and artistic voices, this book develops a critical methodology of nomadic theatricality through the documentation and analysis of a range of contemporary theatre practices.

Nomadic Performance Making charts a map of contemporary theatrical nomadism that engages in the process as a dramaturgical device for making performance. Thematic chapters include a scholarly contextual introduction together with a range of case studies by artists critically reflecting on their devising process, performance practice and experience. By exploring these examples, It draws connections between established and lesser-known artists across international contexts, whilst presenting academic and creative reflections on the physical investment of traversing and being embedded in new territories as an integral element of the devising process

By being nomadic researchers, the artists discussed in this book consider ways in which an immersion in new territories creates new affordances for the performing body to reframe and challenge narratives through 'present' political agency. Often searching to understand complex identities, inherited histories or political agendas, these creative archaeologists actively mine for new insights and ways to share findings through performance practices. In precarious times from the current war driven devastations of Ukraine, Gaza and beyond, the innumerable refugee crises that ensue, to environmental breakdown and political fissures from Brexit to far-right global populism; this timely volume provides insights into how artists engage with notions of borders, displacement and environment through a displacement of their own bodies and experiences.
