With the emergence of global environmental issues such as ozone-layer depletion, the loss of biodiversity, global warming and acid rain, the role of economics both in the causes of these problems and in the development of policy options is being examined thoroughly. This new book will show what role economics plays in this regard. Also, this book will provide a critical analysis of some of the speeches given by Ricardo Lagos, President of Chile, between March 11th 2000 -- when he took office -- and September 2001, with a view to establishing how the issues of globalisation and national identity are tackled, by means of macro-strategies, topics and linguistic means of realisation.
