Career diplomat, Elka Vonn, is on assignment in Grenada when she learns her estranged parents have vanished from their Pacific Northwest home. Initially indifferent, she's compelled to return to her childhood home on Crown Tree Island when the threat to her ambassadorial dreams becomes real. While searching for her parents, Elka uncovers family secrets, land conflicts, and tangled relationships that force her to confront her failed marriage and fractured relationship with her daughter. She must face the painful possibility that it may be too late for forgiveness and redemption, and why she helps strangers in crisis rather than her own family.
