The idea to write this book was to leave something behind for children, grandchildren, family, friends and anyone else who might be interested; to give a glimpse of what happened during the 20th century as seen through the eyes of someone who has had the opportunity to witness it from the small vantage point of an unimportant individual, as compared to the century's great historical figures, but who nevertheless 'was there' and by doing so never felt a dull moment.
