Necessary Dissent: Essays on Israel, Hamas, and October 7: Contemporary Holocaust Studies

Editat de Jonathan Brent, Jeffrey Herf
en Limba Engleză Paperback – iul 2027
Before and since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, a deeply pejorative view of Israel and a lack of understanding of Islamist forms of antisemitism have found a place in universities, journalism, and politics in the United States and Europe. The contributors to this volume dissent from those widespread misconceptions.
Necessary Dissent includes essays on the collaboration of Islamists with Nazi Germany during World War II and the Holocaust, the aftermath in the Islamists’ decision to go to war in 1948 to reject Israel’s declaration of independence, the nature and consequences of that war, and the Islamization of Palestinian nationalism since the 1980s as the background to the aggression of October 7. A second set of essays critically examines the accusation of genocide leveled at Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, the peculiar response of many Western feminists to well-documented reports of sexual terror by Hamas, the willingness of self-described leftist organizations to repeat the slogans, and the factual claims of Hamas.

Recenzii

“The assault on Israel’s right to exist has become this generation’s great moral divide. For decades, Jonathan Brent, Jeffrey Herf, and their fellow contributors to this essential volume have heroically defended the integrity of the Jewish story against the anti-Zionist lynch mob. Even knowledgeable students of Middle East history will learn much from their fascinating and wide-ranging essays. I read this book with keen interest but most of all with gratitude and profound respect for its authors.”—Yossi Klein Halevi, senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute and author of the New York Times bestseller Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor

“Necessary Dissent is a superbly researched, profoundly thoughtful, and very well written compendium of responses to the sheer horror of 7 October 2023. Its editors deserve congratulation on a really first-class contribution to the vital discussion about what happened and what needs to be done to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”—Andrew Roberts, chair of the Israel All-Party Parliamentary Group’s “7 October Parliamentary Commission Report”
