When the world is dying, salvation arrives from the stars.
The Celestials come not with fire, but with water, grass, healing, and the promise of a restored Earth. Across a ruined planet, poisoned wells run clear again. Dead fields bloom. Sick bodies strengthen. Starving communities see green for the first time in years.
But the miracle has a hidden cost.
Those who accept the Celestials' transformation become part of a vast connected consciousness where pain fades, fear softens, and individuality slowly disappears. For many, it feels like peace. For others, it is a beautiful cage.
Zander Vale never asked to become the bridge between humanity and the alien restoration network. Partially transformed, haunted by abandonment, and armed mostly with sarcasm, old scars, and his loyal dog Churro, Zander can hear the people trapped inside the green. He can reach them. Sometimes, he can bring them back.
With the help of Kaide, a Celestial defector carrying devastating guilt, Echo, an escaped experimental subject who refuses to be useful ever again, and a growing circle of survivors, Zander discovers the truth: healing and control were never the same thing. The Celestials added the leash after they learned how to make the world bloom.
Now humanity faces an impossible choice. Reject the restoration and risk losing the planet forever, or accept survival at the cost of memory, names, grief, and selfhood.
But Zander and the others are searching for a third option.
A way for water to flow without command.
A way for healing to remain without obedience.
A way for names to stay.
Names Stay is a character-driven dystopian science fiction novel about survival, identity, consent, found family, grief, ecological restoration, and the dangerous beauty of being saved by someone who does not believe you have the right to refuse.
REVIEW:
4 Books - Strongly Recommended: Names Stay is an engaging, emotionally substantial work of post-apocalyptic science fiction with a distinctive consent-centered premise, memorable characters, and genuine thematic ambition. Its length, repeated motifs, and persistent comic rhythm may test some readers, but its strengths carry the novel as a whole.
