My Expression

Autor Hui Zhu
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 15 sep 2026
Serving as the poignant conclusion to the Nanjing Literature Series, My Expression anchors its psychological drama in the distinctive, humid atmosphere of modern Nanjing. Told through dual narrative threads, the novel centers on Kong Yang, an editor at a cultural institution whose routine life is disrupted by the reappearance of his first love, Xin Yi. For eight years, Kong has secretly kept their university love letters as relics of a faded youth. Upon hearing of Xin Yi's divorce and return from overseas, he reignites a clandestine, emotionally charged affair that blurs the lines between memory and reality. Parallel to this emotional turbulence is a tragic family crisis: Kong's sister-in-law, Rousang, is diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. As her condition deteriorates, the family rallies to create a dignified final chapter for her, unintentionally causing emotional ripples that test the bonds of love and duty. Written by Zhu Hui, a Lu Xun Literature Prize-winning author known for his "emotional acuity and ethical complexity," this novel captures the subtle, often unspoken tensions of life in Nanjing--a city where ancient history looms over modern anxieties. It is a story about the entanglements of innocence and maturity, the devastating ripple effects of desire, and the quiet dignity required to face mortality.
