A famous painting. A body at its unveiling. And a curse that has killed every owner who came before. When a prominent art dealer is murdered the night his prized acquisition goes on display, Detectives Daniels and Remalla step into a world they weren't prepared for: the high-stakes, ruthless politics of the art world, where old grudges run deep and money covers a multitude of sins. To navigate it, they bring in Detective Phoebe Reinhart - whose art background makes her the right person for the case, but whose complicated past has her questioning her abilities. This investigation will determine whether she's ready for more.
The suspects are plentiful - a vengeful ex-lover with a dangerous husband, a betrayed girlfriend, a rival with everything to gain. But the deeper the three detectives dig, the harder it becomes to ignore the painting at the center of it all. Every previous owner is dead. The curse isn't folklore. And now they're the ones asking questions.
When another life is lost and the detectives themselves become targets, the case stops being about who killed the art dealer and starts being about whether Daniels, Remalla, and Reinhart will be the next names on the painting's list.
A standalone prequel to Haunted River, Book One in the Detectives Daniels and Remalla series. Detective trio. Art world murder. Cursed object. For fans of John Connolly's Charlie Parker series, Preston and Child's Pendergast novels, and Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas.
Reviews for Murder Unveiled: "The detectives are well drawn, interesting and very likable. The dialogue is witty, harsh, real, tender, and true to each character throughout the book. The cutthroat art world, dysfunctional families, deception, and greed make an engaging read. Just the right level of suspense." "This is one of the best mysteries I have read lately. Great partners who are funny but know how to solve a weird art murder. " "Seriously, I couldn't put the book down. A good old-fashioned, intertwined, complicated, convoluted happening." "A prequel that feels like a series already in full stride, driven by strong character dynamics and a standout investigation. A confident and well-executed mystery that made continuing this series feel less like a choice and more like a pleasant necessity." Follow J. T.
