Murder and Enlightenment

Autor MR Anthony Carbis
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Murder and Enlightenment is a psychological thriller set in Victorian London. When Chi ju-long arrives in London in the year of 1890 there is only one reason for his visit - revenge. Having spent his early years in a Buddhist monastery, Chi knows all about the arts of hypnosis and thought transference. He has used these techniques many times to mentally torture those who dared to cross him. Li Tang, owner of The Eastern Emporium, which is a combined brothel and clearing house for stolen goods, is destined to be Chi's next victim. Having stolen Chi's woman forty years previously, he is about to pay the price for his earlier mistake. Li has a friend in the shape of master criminal, Peter Bold, who has cleverly created the illusion that he is a brilliant private detective, thereby allowing him access to the houses of the wealthy and the riches that lie within them. Unfortunately, Peter has made an enemy of a young thug called Daniel Reed, who mistakenly blames Peter for destroying his childhood. Daniel has formed a friendship with Chi, who foresaw that his destiny would bring him to England - a land full of westerners whose barbaric, limited understanding of life he despises. Together, Li and Peter must pursue Chi and his young cohort, Daniel Reed, through the slums of the Eastend, in order to stop them from murdering an innocent woman, who has been used as a pawn in their relentless game of revenge. Peter's sanity is tested to the limit, as his drug habit, combined with Chi's masterful use of hypnosis, drive him to the point where he questions his perception of reality. In the end, he feels he understands what his friend, Li Tang, meant when he said, 'Nothing is truly separate. Separation is a judgement of the mind'.
