Marina, a Russian high school student, wants to experience life outside the Soviet Union and travel the world. And in 1991, as drastic political and social changes are happening in her country, that dream seems possible. Like many Muscovites, Marina is excited about the changes and the new life. But then, one August morning, tanks rumble down her quiet Moscow street. In the weeks and months that follow, Marina's life changes in ways she could not have imagined.
